Mini Sweater-Dress – Elle Blogs

I couldn’t make up my mind about the Squareneck Mini Sweater-Dress from J. Crew for the longest time: I had ordered and returned the dress (in different colorways) three times over the last year. While I really like the concept–a lightweight three-season sweater dress that’s easy to layer for transitional weather, with a narrow fit that hints at, but doesn’t cling to, one’s curves–the shoulder straps were much too long on a shorter torso (I’m 5’2); so, even though the dress was <$100 at retail, I thought I could find something at a similar price point that won’t require any slapdash DIY.

As I waited for something that fit (a little) better off-the-shelf to come along, the price on this J.Crew option dropped quite dramatically earlier this summer, and I decided I was willing to attempt to shorten the straps myself. After a few weeks with this dress, I am actually quite happy that I took the plunge, because it is just as versatile as advertised, and very easy to transform for different occasions with simple accessory swaps.

As the dress has been on sale for several week now, it’s only available in black online, and sizes have become limited. If you are interested, bookmark the page as the “Belvedere Red” and “Bright Patina” seen in this post are restocked in assorted sizes from time to time.
